Most people want a new charter which is easy to understand

The Number One wish of the people for the new Constitution is that it was written with language which is easily understandable and without interpretation, according to Dusit Poll.

The poll conducted by Suan Dusit University during October 12-17 from 1,274 respondents showed that 85.56 percent of the respondents wished the new charter to be written with easily understandable language followed by 83.99 percent for the protection of the rights and freedom of the people.

The other wishes of the people are as follows: 82.97 percent want the charter to be compact but cover all the key aspects; 77.55 percent want the charter to be difficult for amending; 72.06 percent want the charter to correspond with the Thai way of life; 68.13 percent want the charter to help prevent corruption; 66.01 percent want the charter to be democratic and internationally accepted; 65.54 percent to prevent parliamentary monopoly.

The poll also showed the following results: 84.22 percent have confidence in Mr Meechai Ruchupan’s CDC; 70.80 percent want referendum to endorse the charter; 63.59 percent hope the new charter will truly benefit the country and its people.

81.63 percent are worried that the new charter will lead to more conflicts; 75.67 percent are afraid that the new charter will not pass the approval; and 71.66 percent suspect that some provisions are meant for the benefit of certain groups of people.
